Bike MS: Road, Sweat & Gears Ride

McCall Area Chamber of Commerce

Ride from the scenic mountain town of McCall, Idaho and help us raise money to find a cure for MS. The two day event will be held on August 23 & 24.

While the ride will start and finish each day in downtown McCall, day one will take cyclists on their choice of 20, 40, or 60 miles over majestic mountain roads to and from the town of Burgdorf.

On day two, cyclists can choose a 25 or 50 mile ride through scenic central Idaho to the resort town of Tamarack and back.

Rest stops and support volunteers will be available along the route to make sure your ride is fun and successful!

After riding each day, cyclists, their families, volunteers and guests will be welcomed back to McCall with a finish line celebration sponsored by the McCall Brewery on Saturday and Alpine Village on Sunday.

This is more than just a ride -
-    it's a weekend event for the entire family
-    it's an opportunity to VOLUNTEER
-    it's a way to help fight MS.

The success of the Bike MS ride is directly related to the wonderful volunteers who help make the event go off without a hitch. We welcome volunteers with a wide range of talents and skills. There is only one requirement: to want to do something about MS NOW. Your valuable skills and fresh perspectives will make the Society a stronger and better organization.

Free accommodation and meals
will be provided to our volunteers

Event Site Set-up (Friday) - Help with the set-up of the event site in McCall.

Volunteer Check In - Check in volunteers as they arrive and provide them with their assignments.

Registration Volunteers - Help check in cyclists as they arrive at start locations.

Opening Ceremonies - join the staff at the - crack of dawn - to set up the start site with food, traffic control, and security. Help cheer the cyclists as they depart on their adventure.

Rest Stop Crew - The cyclists stop every 6-10 miles and need to be greeted with smiles, water, and snacks. Rest stop volunteers help keep the cyclists going!

Cheering Squad - Be at the finish line to cheer the cyclists in at the end of their journey each day.

Finish Line Ceremonies - We need people to cheer, help check in the cyclists, set up meals, and provide traffic control and security.

Massage Therapists - There are a lot of sore and tight muscles at the end of the ride that need some work. Be there to give 15 minute massages. It makes a great difference!

Motorcyclists - Motorcyclists are needed at certain locations along the route.

Information Booth - Volunteers answer general questions and distribute printed material.

Signs - Volunteers are needed to organize signs and assist in placement and removal of signs along the route.

HAM Radio Operators - Volunteer Licensed Amateur Radio Operators (HAM Radio) keep in constant communication with all aspects of the ride.

Supply Truck Drivers - Volunteers who drive, load, and unload trucks that supply water, food and supplies on the route. Moderate to heavy lifting is required. Valid driver's license required.

Medical Volunteers - Will work with Medical Director to ensure cyclists safety. Volunteers are stationed at rest stops or in mobile vehicles with HAM Radio Operator.

SAG Vehicle Driver - Volunteers drive Supply And Gear (SAG) vehicles transporting riders and assisting riders in all aspects of the ride.

Scenic Brundage Mountain is the backdrop for a unique and affordable program that combines art education and outdoor exploration at its finest. Children ages 8 - 12 will learn art techniques like Gyotaku and tye-dye through guided discovery.

An experienced children's art instructor will introduce the children to a variety of art mediums, and the classes will also take campers outdoors to learn about the mountain environment and get a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of chairlifts and snowcats.

"Our goal is to offer an affordable way for children to get in touch with the natural environment and explore their own creativity,-said program director, Shayne Large.

The program costs just $20 per child and lasts for four hours on two consecutive Saturdays. There are two sessions to choose from, and all art supplies are included in that fee.

"It's easy to draw inspiration from the beautiful mountain setting,- said instructor Jennifer Church. "And we'll be sending the campers home with personalized works of art, which will include gyotaku tote bags, tie dye t-shirts and nature portraits and prints.-

Jennifer Church is a mural artist with a B.F.A. in Graphic Design. Jennifer has offered many art lessons in the area, both at the Kaleidoscope Children's Art Festival and Creative Campus.

2nd Annual Brundage Mountain Jam

The musical lineup is spectacular, and it looks like the weather will be too! The 2nd Annual Brundage Mountain Jam runs this Friday & Saturday, July 25 & 26 in Brundage Mountains beautiful alpine amphitheater.

Ten different jam bands will entertain visitors for the two-day event. Free camping is offered for those purchasing a two-day concert ticket.

Friday night's acts include: Play Like Randy, R. Dub and local favorite, Equaleyes. Saturday's performers include: Buckskin Bible Revue, Z Kamp Express, Trevor Green, Good Morning Maxfield, David Gans, Moon, and Donna Jean & the Tricksters.

A variety of vendors will be on site, providing food, beverage and arts & crafts selections.

A two-day all-event ticket is $50. A Saturday-only ticket is $30. Tickets can be purchased at idarockfest.com, at Paul?s and Ridley's markets in McCall, or at the gate. Kids 12 & under are free.

Mountain bikers will have access to bike trails during regular business hours.

Avalanche Danger is Considerable

Good Afternoon this is John Groom form the Payette Avalanche Center with the Avalanche Advisory for the weekend of December 26, 2008. This weekend the Avalanche hazard is High. A high avalanche hazard means Natural and Human triggered avalanches are likely. Unstable slabs are likely on a variety of aspects and slope angles. Travel in Avalanche terrain is not recommended at this time, if you do go out remember to stay well away from steep slopes and avalanche runout zones which may stretch far out into flat areas at the base of steep slopes. We have issued an Avalanche Warning for the West Central Mountain area. This advisory and Warning does not apply to ski area or highway operations where avalanche control work is routinely done.

Brundage Mountain Offers 2-for-1 Scenic Rides for Final Day of Summer Chairlift Season
McCALL, ID - Brundage Mountain Resort is heading into its last weekend of summer lift operations, with extended hours for Labor Day.

The BlueBird Express high-speed quad will be open daily from Friday, August 29 through Monday, September 1st from 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Normally, lifts only run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in the summer, but the resort is adding Monday lift service to take advantage of the last holiday weekend of the summer season.
"The popularity of our scenic rides is skyrocketing," said Communication Director, April Russell. "We want to give every last person the chance to enjoy the beauty of Brundage Mountain during the summer months."
Monday, September 1st, visitors will be treated to two-for-one scenic ride lift tickets. (Second ticket of equal or lesser value is free with purchase of first ticket).
A single lift ride costs $10 for those 15 and older, and just $5 for those aged 7-14 or 65+. Children 6 & under are free.

Mountain bike trails are in excellent condition, and the full fleet of Kona Downhill Bikes is now on sale. Visitors can rent a bike for the day and apply that amount toward their purchase of a full-suspension mountain bike.

In addition, all clothing in the bike shop will be marked down 50%.

"We've had an amazing summer season up here at Brundage Mountain," said Mountain Biking Director Shayne Large. "We'd love to see a great turnout for our final weekend."

KIDS ART CAMP - BRUNDAGE

Scenic Brundage Mountain is the backdrop for a unique and affordable program that combines art education and outdoor exploration at its finest. Children ages 8 - 12 will learn art techniques like Gyotaku and tye-dye through guided discovery.

An experienced children's art instructor will introduce the children to a variety of art mediums, and the classes will also take campers outdoors to learn about the mountain environment and get a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of chairlifts and snowcats.

"Our goal is to offer an affordable way for children to get in touch with the natural environment and explore their own creativity,-said program director, Shayne Large.

The program costs just $20 per child and lasts for four hours on two consecutive Saturdays. There are two sessions to choose from, and all art supplies are included in that fee.

"It's easy to draw inspiration from the beautiful mountain setting,- said instructor Jennifer Church. "And we'll be sending the campers home with personalized works of art, which will include gyotaku tote bags, tie dye t-shirts and nature portraits and prints.-

Jennifer Church is a mural artist with a B.F.A. in Graphic Design. Jennifer has offered many art lessons in the area, both at the Kaleidoscope Children's Art Festival and Creative Campus.

MCPAWS - Auction for the Animals Benefit Party

MCCALL, ID , Thursday, July 31, at 5:30 p.m., animal lovers are invited to attend MCPAWS' Auction for the Animals at Whitetail Club and Resort. This special party, held every other summer, features cocktails, dinner, and a live and silent auction - all to benefit homeless, abandoned and abused animals.
A sumptuous dinner will be prepared by Whitetail's chef. The silent auction will include a large variety of art, and one-of-a kind items, many of which are animal- themed. There will also be a custom-made dog bed, a case of Spanish wine with a set of hand-blown wine glasses, a cruiser bike, and a long-time favorite - creative and colorful ceramic pet bowls, individually designed and hand-painted by local artists.
The live auction, long thought to be the best in McCall, will feature condominium stays in both Puerto Vallarta and Hawaii, a weekend getaway package to Park City, Utah, a raft trip, a massage a month for a year, and much more.
There is much to do in McCall this summer, but this is a party and fundraiser you don't want to miss. Seating is limited for this always-popular event so register early. MCPAWS, a non-profit animal welfare organization formed in 1998, is committed to maintaining a high standard of care and pet adoption processes and to promoting responsible pet ownership.
